Hey Jean! These are excellent questions. Besides ordering just enough and bringing your leftovers home, you can start by asking your favorite restaurants if they have programs in place to donate their leftovers to local nonprofits. Businesses are 100% allowed to donate food to nonprofits, and are actually encouraged to do so by the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act, which legally protects them from liability associated with these donations. https://www.feedingamerica.org/about-us/partners/become-a-product-partner/food-partners. While not every metro area we operate in has an organization specifically focused on restaurant food recovery, there are many out there that we admire such as Second Helpings in Indianapolis, and Rethink Food NYC in New York. We’d recommend looking into which food nonprofits are active near Hollywood. We’ve loved working with Skid Row Coffee, so that would be a good starting point. Let us know if you have other questions about food waste in restaurants!
